Description:  Although the term ''deuterocerebrum/deutocerebrum'' originally indicates the entire second neuromere in the head segment including the antennal lobes, it was also used to describe specific areas in the brain in their brain map system. It was roughly described to lie ventrally to the level of the great commissure and to receive mechanosensory information from the antennal nerve, no clear landmarks were provided to distinguish the area from surrounding structures.
Correspondence to the new system:  May correspond to components of the perioesophageal neuropils, mainly the saddle.
