To search neurons by their names, type full name or part of them.
You can limit the search to the neurons whose name begins with, ends with, or exactly equals to, the name you typed.
If you want to see the list of all the neurons that are currently in the database, go to "Browse All Records."
Areas of arborization:
To search the neurons that arborize in particular brain areas, type here the name of the brain area or part of it.
For precise documentation of arborizations, many brain areas (e.g. medulla) are divided into smaller subregions (e.g. M1-M10 layers). Type, e.g., "M4" to search neurons that arborize in the 4th layer of medulla. Type "M" to search all the neurons that arborize somewhere in the medulla.
See "The List of the Brain Areas" page for the names of subregions.
Presynaptic sites:
Type the name of the brain area where presynaptic sites (output regions of the neural fibers) is known to exist. Presynaptic sites are determined either by the characteristic morphology of the synapses (for the neurons analyzed with Golgi impregnation) or the distribution of presynapses-targeted fluorescent markers (such as neuronal-synaptobrevin::GFP or synaptotagmin::HA, for the neurons analyzed with GAL4 driver strains).
Postsynaptic sites:
Type the name of the brain area where postsynaptic sites (input regions of the neural fibers) is known to exist. Postsynaptic sites are determined either by the characteristic morphology of the synapses (for the neurons analyzed with Golgi impregnation) or the distribution of postsynapses-targeted fluorescent markers (such as GABA receptor-targeted Rdl::HA, for the neurons analyzed with GAL4 driver strains).
Keywords:
Type sensory modalities of the neurons (e.g., visual, auditory, etc.) or morphological features (e.g. interneuron, projection neuron).
Neurons can also be searched by choosing terms (brain areas and neuron classes) provided in the pulldown lists.
